One of our assignments was to find fabric that had a border around the outside, make a garment with it and match the border seamed edges.

Surprisingly, fabric designs with borders were hard to find unless you veered into the silk fabrics, which can be $15 per yard/panel and up. And since this was just an exercise & I have a budget, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this one. However, I ran across this rayon fabric on sale at Jo-Ann Fabrics for $8 per panel.

I’d planned to close the back with a zipper, but because the fabric is thin and it draped, the zipper would’ve warped the drape. And my teacher and I kind of liked the open back, so I lined it and closed the top of the back with buttons. The dress may or may not be in the Gold Thimble fashion show, depending on the show length and whim of the teachers.
